Being a baker means I need products I can count on and a multi-tasker is a must in my kitchen. The Simple Baker does everything my expensive silicone baking mats do, plus as much as I did not appreciate the circle pattern at first, I became to really like the convince it provided. My cookies never touched each other, so I have to admit I’m not the best spacer I thought I was!

The mat yielded the same results as my french branded mat and clean-up was a cinch. The mat cleans up instantly with a little soapy water and I just fill the sink 1/4 way up, make some bubbles and suds on top of the mat and this I find is the most gentle way to clean the mat with no sponge and/or sink brush needed. I simply roll the Simple Baker mat (without creating fold or creases) and use a silicone band to keep it in place.

I wanted to test the silicone mat out with by making dark chocolate ganache cookies. The cookies are a butter base recipe and I tried both round shapes and heart shapes when baking. My baking time was adjusted, as these silicone mats provide even baking, which tends to accelerate the baking but produces what I call the “perfect cookie”. You get a soft flaky texture on the inside with a cookie top crust that stays in place and only crumbles until you take a bite.

Not too long ago I got the opportunity to review Kiss Me Organics Matcha Green Tea. I liked it. A lot. Clean, not jittery, energy and overall a nice switch from regular coffees and teas. Kiss Me Organics decided to then send me the Ceremonial Grade Matcha. I’m more than game.

It leave s just a little sediment at the bottom, but that’s nothing to complain about. I just love this tea.

If you’re wondering if the higher grade is worth the higher price, I say it is. I thoroughly enjoyed it, and plan to save it for special occasions. It has all the same energy benefits I noted with the premium version. It also has the one big drawback too. It’s so finely ground that it’s nearly impossible to not drop a bit, and it stains almost instantly. So I’d advise preparing your tea over glass or something that is glazed and dishwasher safe. With the new year brings new goals and that means dropping old (bad) habits for the sake of improvement. One of the goals I implemented in 2014, was to drink more water. I was not dropping a soda habit but I just forget to drink anything for long periods of time and usually recall right before dinner time. I started by just carrying a water bottle around and realized that it’s nice and heavy in my purse when full. I carried that water bottle everywhere and never even forgot it or lost it……but rarely had any. I think just the idea of drinking plain water over and over again was sort of lost on my taste buds unless they were suffering from thirst.

My solution in 2015………let’s add fruit to the party! An infuser water bottle allows me to change things up with the seasons, my cravings, to just getting me enticed to drink more fluids and of the good kind to boot. When the FlavFusion bottle arrived, I was ready with my favorite fruit, Pomegranates. I had one ready with all the arils already removed so I can get a jump start. I did as instructed and washed the bottle, removed the top, added the fruit to the “infuser tube”, added filtered water and allowed everything to come together. I even semi-crushed some of the fruit to allow better (and quicker) infused results. I tried both an overnight fusion and even a simple one hour of soaking before drinking. I can say I did enjoy playing with the flavors, amount of fruits to different fruit combinations. I even used Coconut water at times as a base and made a tropical blend with a small Pineapple spear and Tangerine slices. My experience was mostly positive and I did drink my way to 6 to 8 glasses of fluid a day. Success and very easy to do!

A few (small) Cons- The bottle states to hand-wash and I know sometimes we are all use to just adding items to the dishwasher and even the top rack. This would be a no-go here as the heat would probably damage the product.  Knowing that the bottle is made of better materials, I can easily overlook this.  The bottle sometimes drips from the top where you secure it closed and this could cause some drops to leak and that can’t be too nice when carrying or if it happens to tip over. Just make sure to always keep it upright and you should drink happily!

Epica: Folding Step Stool #Review #StepStool12

Sometimes it’s the little things that make a difference and the Epica step stool is one of them. Let’s cut to the chase here, I’m short like I hit a growth spurt in Junior High and then never grew again. Great! I can wear heels and never worry about hitting my head over anything but if I need anything that is past my fingertips…..I’m the tippy-toe queen! When we had the kitchen redone, I love the spacious cabinets that use every inch of space to our benefit but then came the reality of having to drag out the step ladder out of the closet. My Husband sees the step ladder and I can always hear him seconds after, “what did you need to get”? As the ladder is now against a wall until I put it back.

In comes Epica’s Step Stool that not only is easily stored but does not harm my kitchen’s floor. Yes, the travertine floor is beautiful but I try not to ever walk on it with heels and I’m very careful about not dragging anything over it. This is why a chair can’t just be used like before! Epica’s step stool harms nothing, leaves no marks, and is perfectly balanced. I can safely reach what I need and I don’t miss that “hiccup” my step ladder found humorous to do when I had something fragile in my hands. You know what I’m talking about…..when the top step does that slight little pitch forward even though it’s feet never move. Funny ladders when you are height impaired is only funny for others that watch you! I also love the fact that there is no later when it comes to putting it away because it easily folds and into the kitchen’s cabinet it goes, and again with zero damage to the wood’s surface when stored. I don’t have to worry when I use it, stand on it and store it……who thought that would be so appreciated but I surely do appreciate the practicality of it and mostly, getting that thing I can’t reach that you know is giggling back where-ever it is 🙂

Application- I started by washing my face with mild soap or a simple face wash. I then applied a thin layer of mud mask. If applying on the face, avoid the eye and lip areas and any areas you may be sensitive to over-drying. I left the mask on for 20 minutes, however the directions state for 10 to 15 minutes until dry. I sometimes find some mud based masks work well after you shower, so I would apply and then use the water to wash my hands and just literally walk out with the mask on my face until 20 minutes would lapse. It’s my way of multi-tasking! You use warm water to gently remove the mask from the skin and I use wet paper towels for the edges I can’t get to (i.e. nose corners, along the hair line, ect.). This makes sure I do not stain any of our face towels. You then pat dry with a clean cloth and apply a good moisturizer to start nourishing the skin. I read on InstaNatural’s site, that they do not recommend using the Dead Sea Mud Mask more than once a week……..doesn’t get easier when it comes to skin care regimens!

What to Expect- To avoid over-dryness, I made sure to stick to the directions and used the mask once a week for a 4-week period (I’m still using it and now it’s a main stay and a must have). The first time after leaving the Dead Sea Mud Mask for 20 minutes, I was left with a nice clean surface that was not over dry but had a nice clean sheen. I applied their retinol based moisturizer soon after to make sure I was nourishing my skin’s surface. As the days passed, I noticed my skin continuing to purge (i.e. clogged pores) and my pores looked and felt less (could not feel a bump) congested. On the second week of application, the main difference was that I did not experience any break-outs, which is a little odd for me. I always have a small pimple or little blackhead that is trying to become more than what it really is but I admit that I pick at them, so they get angry with me sometimes :). I had none and no irritations. It was easy to make this mud mask part of my “Sunday Face Clean” day. I was happy with the process and my fall back when it came to having the Remineralization kit. I knew if I experienced sensitivity, I had something that would aid me from experiencing any discomfort.  All of the products are meet USP standards and are FDA compliant.  The results were great and I was satisfied with the level of whiteness I achieved. I did not need many shades lighter, just something to brighten my smile. That little touch of glow that makes it look like you drink only water and never eat anything with red sauces. My only regret is what I spent before on whitening systems that never resulted in giving me what I desired. Dr. Song’s product let me follow at my own pace and achieve the results I want, when I want to. I can stop when I want and pick-up again if I had a few weeks of drinking too much tea. I’ve been using supplements now for almost 2 decades. I know what works for me and what doesn’t. I use very few because, honestly, most of them are junk and don’t do squat. Of the few I’ve taken with regularity, BCAAs are some that I feel work for me. So when Diet Standards offered to let me try their product in exchange for an honest review, I jumped at the chance. There’s some good stuff, and a little bad here, so let me explain.

Ingredients (as listed on the site):
AminoHD 1000 BCAA contains only Branch Chain Amino Acids and Vegetable Capsules. Nothing else deserves to be in your BCAA supplement. – Ingredients: L-Leucine (250mg per capsule), L-Isoleucine (125mg per capsule), and Valine (125mg per capsule) in Vegetable Capsules (Vegetable Cellulose).

-The Good-

These BCAA’s are very competitively priced in this market. You get 450 500mg capsules for $29.99. That’s a fantastic value. They advertise no fillers or artificial ingredients, and as near as I can tell, there aren’t any. I’ve opened the capsules to mix with my post-workout shake, and mixed some in with my pre-workout drink as well. No horrid taste that I can detect. As far as results, I exercise to maintain my health, strength, and fitness level, not to get fitter, bigger or stronger. So in that regard, I give the product high marks, now two weeks in, for being not all the different than the “optimum” branded product I was using before. No better, and no worse. So that should be high praise indeed.

-The Bad-

The recommended servings are INSANE. 2 capsules between meals, before workouts, and after workouts That’s a LOT of damn pills, people. Unless you’re looking to get jacked up like, say, a Ronnie Coleman, that’s massive overkill. And that many BCAA’s without an extremely intense, long workout are a total waste. Also, the capsules are kind of flimsy, which leads to the powder “leaking” out, or getting crushed easily, or popping open. No bueno. But if that’s the price I pay for a more natural gel capsule, I’ll live with it. Just keep a zip-top baggie handy if you need to transport them.

Overall, these are a tremendous value for the quality, and I’m glad I got to try them. I can say that when this bottle is done, I’ll probably be ordering another. Thanks again, Diet Standards!

I got a chance to try something that seasonally, anywhere but in Southern California, would have been impossible. See, our little pooch? Let’s be honest. Sometimes, she gets a little funky. But in the peak of Fall? Luckily we got (yet another) bout of freakishly hot weather, which means we got to test out I Love My Dog Shampoo by Lovely Fresh. We’ve tried more than a few pooch shampoos (even one or two human ones too!) on our little girl. Some are too perfume-ey, some too drying, some with promises no shampoo could ever hope to deliver.

I Love My Dog shampoo by Lovely Fresh makes a few boasts, like it being formulated to make your pet’s skin and coat beautiful and healthy, from roots to tips, promoting overall wellness of skin and coat, removing bacteria and adding strength and shine. It also says it’s “vet recommended”, but what vet and where it doesn’t say. It also claims to leave a lasting fresh scent, but truthfully, I can’t say this was the case. While it did banish her “poochy” scent for a little while, it came back the next afternoon. Next up, was the natural ingredient claim, with oatmeal and neem. It also says it’s soap, detergent, and alcohol, but will still work up a rich lather. Again, the product fell short in that last portion, as I found myself having to use more and more product to get any foamy goodness going. As an aside, the instructions say to let the shampoo sit on her coat for 5 minutes. I had no luck getting our dog to hold still for 2 minutes while she’s wet and foamy(ish), let alone 5 minutes. Poor girl even gave me that look like what are you waiting for! Your mileage may vary here. With a satisfaction guarantee, it’s really your call if you want to pay return shipping if your results are not up to snuff.

Overall, I’d have to say there are probably better products you could use that cost the same or less. Like people, every dog is different, and what might not be great for our girl might be fantastic for yours. There’s really no way to know but to try. I’d have to mark this one as a “pass” for us. But again, with a satisfaction guarantee, it never hurts to try.
