Madking Edison-Style Filament 60W Incandescent Bulb (6-pack)

I’ve been a fan of Edison-Style filament bulbs from the moment I saw them. They are so intricate, delicate, and beautiful and bring a little bit of fancy into an otherwise utilitarian object. And while pretty incandescent bulbs are now quite in vogue, it wasn’t too long ago that they were quite hard to come by. I was thrilled to get to try a new set with a different design, but alas, all Edison-style bulbs are not created equal.

At first, everything was perfect. Most of my light fixtures now had some version of Edison-Style lights in them. They have a standard (E26) base as well as a standard (A19) bulb shape. They run on standard 120V power and are supposed to be rated for up to 3,000 hours (more on that later). The Madking bulbs were a little brighter, but a little extra light in a room can be a good thing. Then the first bulb blew out, just a couple of days after I put it in. I chalked that up to rough handling from shipping, but a few days later, the replacement blew out as well. Then another went in a separate fixture. So unless every bulb had the bejeezus shaken out of it during shipping, there must be a defect in the materials somewhere. I’m hesitant now to put them back into fixtures, because what’s the point if they only last a few days to a week? A quick check of the reviews on Amazon shows that this is a pretty common occurance, and while Madking seems to be great about shipping replacements, those seem to sometimes blow out just as fast. The last thing I want to be doing in dragging out the stepstool every few days and replace more bulbs. That’s not a merry-go-round I want to ride, thanks.

It’s a shame these didn’t last better or longer, because while they work, they’re beautiful. While they are a tad brighter than I would like, they are at a nice intersection where form meets function, without either really taking precedence over the other. If they could just figure out why they burn out so fast and fix that, Madking has a real winner on their hands.

I use dimmers with a gradual rise to the pre-set lighting level, and consequently go many, many years between replacing bulbs. Enlightened Ambience: Antique Edison Style Chandelier 40 Watt Light Bulbs #Review #EnjoyLight

As much as I like to save energy, I don’t feel that all bulbs have achieved the best make-over. Many of the LED kind are chunky in appearance and don’t provide soothing light. I want to be able to see true colors when I’m looking at objects, foods or even what I’m wearing. When I changed bulbs around the home and we have many, many, light fixtures, I had to find the proper balance. Our dining room lighting was changed first and the LED lights made food look unappealing and when we started to question if something was black in color or sort of bluish, we had to change bulbs back to just normal incandescent. Same for the expensive LEDs I replaced in the hallway thinking it’s the lights we use more, so I could save more. Wrong! Within 2 months, one light bulb started to flicker when in use and would stop within a few seconds. Then this extended to flickering all the time and even though the bulb’s box stated a 20 some so lifespan, it causing a strobe effect made me walk in the dark half the time and lets just say the moment I turned ahead of time and met the wall…..well, I went back to just plain old normal lights.

We paid a lot for our fixtures and some I want to look as nice as can be. This goes for the chandelier style lantern we have outside in the front. I don’t want to blind my neighbors every time they exit their home either, but I want to be able to see well when night comes. At 40 watts and being that it’s a 3-lighted lantern, the bulbs from Enlightened Ambience fit the bill both look wise and cost.

Yorkshire Mayfair: Fine Bed Linens Hotel Collection Bed Sheets Review #Luxury1000Thread

Having a California King sized bed is great because you have room to sleep and move in but is negative when it comes to shopping for sheets, bed spreads, comforters, or anything of the like. Big bed means big prices!

I was thrilled when the Yorkshire Mayfair Company (L&Z inc.) reached out and sent bed linens for review. I just purchased a set of sheets but they don’t tuck in well at the corners and this was before washing. Cottons are just not made the same anymore and even treating a set of sheets to a delicate cycle of wash and tumble, it just does not guarantee no shrinkage, so back to the store they went. Comforter sets rarely come with the sheets anymore and when they do, a bed-in-a-bag deal is not the same quality it use to be. I’m not paying $200 plus for sheets I am going to be fighting with!

I always wash sheets before use and did so with the Yorkshire Mayfair ones. The package states:

• Deep Pockets that fit up to 18″ Mattresses

The Amazon listing states: Satten Egyptian Cotton and I the sheets do have a shiny finish and feel. Not close to silk sheets in feel but more like a polyester finish. I also noticed the listing reflects a edge on the sheets that is not present on mine, nor is the color I was sent (not of my choosing) is available via Amazon. The fold over portion of the flat sheet on my set is just plain, reflecting just two thread seams sewn across. The listing on Amazon reflects a decorative edge that is like a rolled ribbon look that these did not have. The color of the sheets is on the pink/rose scale but sort of almost like a dusty rose hue that has a sheen on top.  The listing also states 16″ fit even when you change sizing but the package states it fits up to a 18″ mattress.

After Wash:
The sheen remains and I washed the sheets on the delicate cycle with Woolite and tumbled on the delicate setting to avoid shrinkage. The sheets did wrinkle a bit and I had to iron out the wrinkles, even though the sheets never sat in the dryer after the cycle finished. I actually took them out before the drying cycle ended.

Making the Bed:
After I ironed the sheets and let me tell you that King sized sheets that need to be ironed is no party! It took me 30 minutes to get them ready to make the bed and I will say the deep pockets helped and shrinkage was not detected and/or it was so negligible that I did not notice it. The King size did work well with our California King bed, so zero issues there.

 

Final Verdict:
The sheets range on Amazon between $99.00 to $129.95, depending on color choice. I would have not purchased a sort of pink hue that even looks purplish in certain light (but not calming lavender) for either price point. Yes, the sheets wrinkled but I have had worse wrinkles from more expensive brands. These were manageable when it came to ironing and not like others that I just wanted to throw out! I like soft sheets but I noticed the softness comes from the sheen and I would say they are more like smooth in feel to the touch, versus just being soft in texture from the cotton. Unknown if with more washes that sheen will wear off as the dyes fade and if the sheets will hold any of that smoothness feel. I will say that I’m trying to imagine them in a different color and even then, I would have been a bit upset not getting a finished flat sheet look like the one in the listing on Amazon. The Amazon listing has no Satisfaction Guarantee stated and the website the manufacture provided is incomplete, so I would weigh that into account but I know some sellers are better if a problem should arise. I removed the sheets because even though my Husband would have still slept in the bed, I just don’t think it’s right to have our bed made up with pink sheets or flowers anything. I kept the bedroom neutral because it’s only fair 🙂

Majestic Pure Oils: Essential Therapeutic Grade Peppermint Oil #Review #PeppermintOil

 

In the world of essential oils and the like, many companies like to make things fuzzy by using terms as, Pharmaceutical Grade and/or Therapeutic Grade. Who grades or certifies these oils? No one! You have trust the supplier, unless you get into food grades where the FDA grades and then you hear terms as Virgin, Extra Virgin and the like. When it comes to real certifications, where you pay an agency for them to come in, inspect and grade your materials, you then see such certifications like the “Non-GMO” and Organic labels. It comes down to sources and knowing them, so I am a bit critical when it comes to oils and I always think about what will I be using them for and price point attached.

 

Majestic Oils, is a company that carries an array of products and especially oils. They have “Carrier” oils, which get used in addition to essential oils. Think of a candle and the wax is the carrier, where the fragrance would be the essential oil. I was sent a bottle of their, Peppermint Oil to try.

Benefits/Evidence of Peppermint Oil in Essential form:
Beyond it’s soothing scent and being able to clear our nasal passages, Peppermint oil can provide you with many benefits. As I researched, I found many use the oil for stomach problems like nausea and vomiting, however I did see it could worsen heartburn. While many find the oil to sooth the skin, adverse reaction is a possibility if you are sensitive to the plant. You will need to do your research and I went by scientific findings versus just anecdotal evidence. I like balancing out what people report and measure it against what can be proven. I found mostly the essential oil was safer if used as a way to relieve nasal congestion but keeping in mind that for some, it can cause headaches.

I kept the aforementioned in mind and used the product in oil essential form to re-freshen the home, since we keep doors and windows shut close doing colder weather. Being that I suffer from allergies and always congested, I did find mixing the essential Peppermint oil with the Fractionated Coconut oil from Majestic Pure, was the perfect match! The oil filled the home with what I forgot was the true scent of peppermint. I got so use to faux smells that I forgot how calming a scent with cooler notes can be. It did freshen up the home, which I found pleasurable and that alone made me feel good. Think of what lavender can do and peppermint shares the same aromatherapy properties. I actually enjoyed it and threw anything away that claimed to be peppermint scented and was not. The essential oil by Majestic Pure also goes far! I just needed to use a few drops with the other oil, to achieve that perfect balance.

My small and only Con- The dropper is included and while it’s glass and I love it…..it’s just sort of thrown in with bubble wrap into a box where the bottle fits well but not with the dropper. The dropper comes apart easily, as that is how it arrived. Being that the oil could be used on the skin and such, it just did not seem like the most sanitary way to include this. Maybe just adding it to the bottle and including the smaller (non-dropper) top would have been wiser. I cleared the dropper with alcohol because it just seemed as the smart thing to do 🙂  This con would not keep me from buying though!
