Mellanni King Microfiber 1800 Bedsheets

I’ve sung the praises of Melanni bedsheets before here, so when the opportunity arose to try out a set for my king sized bed, I was beyond thrilled. And the quality of these sheets matches the quality of the last sheets!

These king sheets are the same kind and quality of the queen sheets, and while on the surface that doesn’t seem to be saying much, I’ve seen quality, fit and finish swing wildly from batch to batch in even the fanciest and most expensive sheet sets. The same soft spun cotton, the same wrinkle resistance (And yes, a wrinkly sheet can really spoil my night, so I’m counting this as a big plus!), the same cool sleeping as the last set. That “cool sleeping” part might seem like an aside, but for us it was huge. A big part of us avoiding microfiber sheets int he past had to do with the fear that microfiber sheets would sleep hot, and Hubby just cannot bear that, which means I can’t either! I would love to say they’re cotton, but I can’t readily find that information anywhere, and  customer shouldn’t have to hunt for that information either. The sheet didn’t shrink even in hot water and there was none of that annoying short-sheeting either. Everything tucked nicely and stayed that way. I’m a fan of these sheets and I’ll probably pick up a few more sets to rotate.

There is a plethora of colors to choose from, some are striped sateen, and some are flat. There’s really something for everyone!

Mellanni 1800 Thread Count Striped Sheet Set

I’ve avoided microfiber sheets for the simple fact that while I crave warmth and seek out every sunbeam, Hubby runs too hot and mostly sleeps on top of the sheets and stays in the shade. That, and like lumens with flashlights, thread counts are widely overstated, and last but not least I’ve been burned by sheet sets in the past, both from the department stores and from Amazon. But finally, I think I’ve found a great set of sheets that I can recommend!!

Mellanni Sheets are the goods! No short sheeting, no shallow pockets, no more poor fits, and no more pilling! Yes, I’ve bought and used cheap sheet sets (usually the ones that come in a comforter set) that pilled up and felt awful. Not a problem with these Mellanni sheets. And You want to talk about deep pockets? My Euro-Top mattress usually makes fitted sheets, well, fitting, a nightmare. And it’s not even a ultra plush pillow top! But I had room to spare with these Mellanni sheets. The flat sheet tucked in nicely, was even on both sides, and they absolutely look luxurious. They’re a touch on the thin side, but they feel smooth, light and sleek against the skin. But how do they sleep? Like a dream. No overheating Hubby and no wind-chill or frost for me. We didn’t think it was possible, but I think we’ve finally hit a sweet spot for sheets we can both use and enjoy. I’d avoided microfiber sheets for the fear of just that: Sleeping too hot. Put your mind at rest, these sheets are awesome. I washed and dried them, with normal liquid detergent, on a medium dryer cycle, and didn’t notice any threads loose, runs, shrinkage, and I’ll be darned if they actually did resist wrinkles as advertised. I forgot to pull them from the dryer immediately as I do with out normal sheets, because we all know things left to sit in the dryer are doomed to be a wrinkled mess. And yes, I’m one of those OCD types that has ironed her sheets. Don’t judge me. Well, I don’t have to worry about that any more. Nice.

Without a more trained eye I can’t tell if the thread counts on these are 1800. If I had to guess, I’d say probably not, but looking at the quality for the price, I’m not complaining. I’ve spent a heck of a lot more that $35 (shipped free with Prime) and gotten a heck of a lot less! In fact, I liked them so much that I’ll be picking up a few sets, for both ours and the extra bedroom! They come in 8 colors and 4 sizes, so there’s something for everyone. Grab a set or two today!

Blu Monaco Modern Premium File Box Desk Organizer Set

If you’re like me, you have a pile of papers somewhere that you’ve been meaning to get to and sort, organize or file. I have several. My home office’s desk has usually got several piles, organized by order of importance, strewn about it. So when the opportunity arose to try out a set of Premium Home Organizer boxes from Blu Monaco Modern, I was so very game, and I’m so very glad I did.

To start, Amazon’s “Stupid Shipping Crew” threw the package in a box with a couple of air pillows, and somehow assumed that was sufficient to keep these from getting beaten up during shipping. Suffice to say, it was not. But Blu Monaco immediately shipped out a set that was packaged moderately better and arrived pristine. I would have liked a little insert that described how one put the boxes together, but thankfully I did figure it out. These File Organizers are not just made well, out of paper covered heavy-duty cardboard, and they’re a joy to look at, as they can make the unsightly piles of papers on your desk, kitchen table, or coffee table a thing of the past. With a metal-rimmed label on the outside spine, it’s also easy to organize and store things like magazines (sorted by subject matter, natch) that sometimes are of irregular sizes and make storage a nightmare. I know I have more than a few cooking magazines with recipes for days that now, instead of stacking in my bookshelf , will have a more permanent and stylish home. They’re sturdy enough that I can pack them with papers, receipts, or magazines and never have to worry about them falling apart either.

If I had one complaint, and it’s the usual one, it’s that at $25.99, they’re pricey. At $19.99 they’d be priced perfectly, and they’ll have a hard time being competitive with other brands on Amazon or your local office supply store. But they are very well made, and look very sharp on the shelf, so the value of them is really up to you. I liked them I recommend them, and the seller’s service is top-notch.

Ocotillo Southwest’s Way Out West Premium Scented Candles

I love the smells the house gets in fall and winter. We have a number of scented candles and wax melts from a variety of companies for all seasons, but the warmth and spice of fall and winter scents are hands-down my favorites. Sadly, there are a few candles that smell amazing in the store and then you get them home and light them up and there’s a distinct lack of scent. Except for the immediate vicinity around said candle. Or you end up with so much scent you have a headache and never light it again. Ocotillo Southwest’s Way Out West candle sets have struck a happy medium between the two, and smell jaw-droppingly amazing to boot.

We played a hunch when offered and went for the “Native Pinon Pine” Scent, and we weren’t disappointed. I didn’t want something that smells like a bathroom air freshener, or those little pine tree rear-view mirror decorations for cars, but a warm, spicy pine-ey scent that would help Hubby forget we have an artificial tree, and make the house smell like fresh cut pine. And Ocotillo Southwest hit that sweet spot of all those great scent notes without being overbearing or overpowering. The candle burns clean, with no popping or crackling, and the wicks don’t spark. The scent fills the room, and beyond, and lingers for a couple of days after only a few hours of burn. Did I mention the scent is heavenly? Because it truly is, and might well be our favorite for the season.

The packaging is delightful, and suitable for gifting without wrapping, it’s just so cute. The presentation is perfect, and the included metal wick dipper is a total “Well, duh!” moment for me, who has spent the better part of the last two decades blowing out the candles and ruining the scents. I love the wick dipper, and the little copper-ish accent charms on each top-quality mason jar (that you can clean and re-use!) candle. The copper tinted lids screw on securely and make storage a breeze. You get two candles per $29.99 package and Ocotillo Southwest estimates each candle is good for 40-45 hours each. I would love to give the other scents from the Way Out West Collection, because these Native Pinon Pine candles are a huge hit in this house.

AYL® Silicone Heat Resistant Grilling BBQ Gloves Set #Review #AYLsiliconeGlove

It’s no big secret I cook. A lot. So handling hot dishes and pans is pretty much an occupational hazard. What you may not know is hubby also grills. A lot. Except grilling can be messy, even more so sometimes than normal cooking and baking. Gloves are a must. So these AYL silicone grilling gloves are a product long overdue for this house. Made from heat-resistant (Up to 425°!), BPA free silicone, dishwasher safe, and one size fits most. Let’s dive right in.

And To start, these grill mitts do indeed fit most. Both hubby and I fit into them with no problem when we tried them on.  While they are “heat resistant”, you will still feel the temperature through the gloves. So I wouldn’t hang onto hot things for very long. And while they did fit, don’t expect to be terribly dexterous while wearing them. A plus AND minus is the little grippy nubs surrounding the mitts. They are little heart shaped, which while timely and adorable, might be off putting to overly manly-men types. They also get BBQ shmutz stuck in between them due to being so deep. But, a little soap and a dish brush and you’re good as new. The pair have little hanging holes for storage/drying, and the bright red color means even Mr. Distracted, Hubby, can find them in the dark. Another big plus of the silicone is that it won’t hold scents or smells easily. And if you’ve ever handled smoked meats, you know those scents seriously linger.

Lest you think these are good for outdoors only, they are winners inside the house too. With normal oven mitts, you’re lucky to have a thumb. Which makes grabbing some pans, lids or dishes a game of “Do I really have a hold of it?”. Anyone who’s found out they didn’t knows how much fun that can be when it’s all down the front of your clothes or all over the kitchen floor. A thing of the past with these mitts. Overall, the positives far outweigh the negatives, and with a “free premium lifetime guarantee” included, you can’t go wrong here. I’d say grab a pair and try them on for size.
