Ohuhu Jute Storage “Basket” Set

I’m not the biggest Ohuhu fan, and when I apply to try and review products, I try to avoid Ohuhu because of the usually poor quality of their products and the complete lack of aftersales support. Unfortunately, Ohuhu obfuscates their name on Tomoson, using many pseudonyms, for reasons I’ll not speculate about here.

At any rate, I ended up getting these just storage “baskets”, but they’re not really baskets as much as bags of a sort, made from jute string and coated with a plastic on the inside. There’s no rigid sides or bottom, so they tend to slump and crinkle, so storing them less than completely full will lead to them slumping and semi-collapsing. And I don’t know what they coated these with in their plant in China, but there’s a funk to these Ohuhu “baskets”. I’ve left them out in the hopes that the smell will dissipate, but short of that I don’t know what I can do to get rid of the smell, because they have a water resistant coating. For $14.99 you get two sizes (Large: 16.5″ L x 13″W x 9.7″H and Small: 10″ L x 8.7 “W x 5.7″H), and they should hold a good amount of stuff so long as the bottom is supported. Without that support they turn more into the oddly shaped bags. And the goofy “ohuhu storage” logo in bold black letters on the side? Tacky and ugly. Thankfully it’s just on one side.

For your money, you could do worse, but there’s still enough wrong with them for me that i can’t recommend them too highly. There’s no forms or support on the sides or bottom, and they smell really bad. On the plus side they’re affordable and seem like they’d be fairly durable. I’ll leave it to my readers to decide if the negatives overpower the positives.

Ohuhu’s Adjustable Vented Laptop Desk, with USB-Powered Cooling

ScreenHunter_04 Sep. 28 20.53

One of the biggest misnomers of our generation is the term “laptop”. Meant originally to convey the differences between the larger, non-portable “desktop” computer, the “laptop” quick morphed into something you really couldn’t and shouldn’t put on your lap. From the heat, to the vents, to the touchpad, using a laptop on one’s lap became almost an impossiblity. Enter Ohuhu’s Adjustable Vented Laptop Desk. All the problems of using your computer on your lap just got whisked away.

DSC_0817

Not only is it made from a lightweight aluminum alloy, but the “legs” articulate to accommodate almost any position imaginable, lock securely into place, and they even included a mouse pad that attaches on the side to eliminate the hassle and inaccuracies inherent to a touchpad! And the best part, the part that will probably give your laptop a few extra years? It’s vented and actively cooled buy twin USB-powered fans! I’m….in…..heaven! No more cooked thighs, no more Hubby asking “Are your vents blocked?”, and no more strain on my processor from excess heat! And you can easily switch the fan off and on from the toggle switch beneath the desk. I’ve been able to move my “workstation” from the counter and a lightly padded barstool chair to almost anywhere in the house. My laptop is secured and safe, and I have no worries about balance, or my laptop falling. In fact, in the few weeks I’ve had this Ohuhu Adjustable Vented Laptop Desk, I can’t imagine going back to my life before I had it!

A few nits to pick here. One is the price. You can get identical products at much less than the $34.99 price point, and while after using it I’d gladly pay that, they can be found for $10 or more less. The next is the plastic “joints” in the aluminum armatures. I try not to reposition the “arms” too much for fear of these failing. I would like to see them beefed up a bit, perhaps to a heavier gauge ABS plastic. But these are minor concerns that should in no way take away from this spectacular product. Anyone who spends a significant amount of time on their “laptop” (there’s that word again!) should really do themselves and their computer a favor a pick one of these up, like, today.

Ohuhu Extra Heavy Duty Waterproof Bike Cover

While this product might seem like it’s out of my wheelhouse, I’m always happy to find and repurpose products. Such is the case with this Ohuhu “Extra Heavy Duty” bicycle cover. While I don’t own a bicycle or motorcycle, I did get my husband a new lawnmower recently, and rather than just leave it out in the elements, I was fortuitously offered this bicycle cover to review, and as luck would have it, it fit the mower to a tee.

DSC_0734

It’s roomy, and has an elastic strip along the bottom to ensure a semi-custom fit. It does a spectacular job keeping rain, dirt and dust off of what it covers, and looks kinds nifty to boot, all sliver with sporty black. The plastic buckle on the bottom ensures that it will stay securely over whatever you cover as well. The only issue I have is the labeling of “Extra Heavy Duty”. It’s tissue paper thin and I have no doubt that left to the elements it would tear or be ruined quite quickly. Fortunately, what I’m keeping covered is being kept in a shed, so barring major weather events it only has to protect the mower from dust, dirt and the occasional errant drops of water, so it should last a good long time. When not in use, it can be folded up and kept in the included carry bag.

It’s an adequate product that will do exactly what it’s designed to do, but calling it “extra heavy duty” is really a bit of a stretch and leads one to believe it’s thicker or sturdier than it actually is, and I’d be careful leaving it exposed to the elements for any extended period of time. But if your expectations are tempered, you’ll find this Ohuhu cover a decent value for the price.
