Finding Tuna anymore that is edible and from a company that practices safe standards, well it is not that easy. I find many canned versions pretty much a “surprise-in-a-can” because you can’t see the product, so you have take that leap of faith that it will look good and not just be minced fish that should have been discarded. I have bought many brands that allege to hold high standards, to just be disappointed or worse, the only difference is the label and price tag, but the questionable source remains the same. I just stopped eating tuna! Not the best answer when I crave a salad or tuna sandwich, but it was my way to not even deal with it. I then heard many people stopped too because like with many industries, we found out how things are made. The pink goop that made nuggets, well call tuna the grey-ish soup that looked or tasted nothing like the fish. I don’t want to hide the fish with condiments, so why bother was my attitude.
Then came Wild Planet. Okay, I was skeptical because I saw the glossy pamphlets, the pretty pictures and read the materials. It sounds really good:
The company is all about sustainable resources and practices. The main part was traceable responsibility when it comes to the foods they distribute. Not only does Wild Planet have high standards when it comes to fishing, but also on the product they deliver to your family’s table. So, pretty much I don’t have to dress up my tuna to hide getting a not so good can. Wild Planet is a control freak! I like that because that is how I shop and how I would want someone picking my food for me. They are involved with all the fish they purchase to ensure quality, flavor and that texture remains as premium as it can be. No over handling, no hiding yucky questionable “flakes” of fish meat in a can, and making sure that if your can states Albacore Tuna, you get what is labeled.
Wild Planet also offer many varieties that come in canned, jarred or pouch versions. You also can pick products that are packed in oil to no salt varieties. Every selection is just the fish and no water added:
You can see the only thing that comes from a farm, is the chicken and that is even held to organic standards. The rest is all wild caught with strict guidelines like no long lines, no nets, no FAD (fish aggregating device) and turtle safe. Founded in 2004, Wild Planet respects the consumer by first showing the same regard to the seafood they catch. We hear about cage free eggs and how that misnomer is used, but there is no funny stuff when it comes to Wild Planet. They are open about the practices they keep and it has become the mantra the company proudly lives by. Wild Planet is based in my home state of California and all their products are part of the Non GMO project. Like I mentioned, there is really finally a company you can trust when it comes to seafood (and chicken).
Taste Matters:
Okay, I missed the heck out of Tuna! The fish is fresh and the flakes are large in size. Think of a fish steak that was kindly packaged in a can with little to no over handling. You see how the natural fish is shaped and the “breaking of the flake”, that fish meat is up to you. You want larger pieces for salad, you got that! Want to fork it and make smaller pieces for a sandwich or to enjoy with crackers, again you are in control of that. I should have tried Wild Planet longtime ago but I did not want to take that leap……take the jump with both feet in and pick up a can, pouch and/or jar. This is a can packed with fish and not water, oil, fillers or anything. Just purely good seafood!

Pampers Easy Ups work and I can depend on knowing they are soft and comfortable for your toddler but at the same time when accidents happen, I can quickly remedy the situation and get back to potty training. Non-Dairy milks are not foreign to me and especially enjoy the nut based versus the soy ones. My favorite has been a toasted Coconut and Almond blend I have been enjoying, however when BzzAgent offered the new Silk Cashew milk, I was eager to give it a try.
Silk’s Cashew Milk comes in a carton and is located in the refrigerated section. You see a huge cashew nut, which gets you thinking you will taste the cashew when you try it. I would say that is not what I got when I tasted the milk on it’s own. It’s more closely to soy milk versus any nut milk I have tried. I know cashews have buttery notes and that was not present. I even bit into an unsalted cashew to make sure I had not momentarily forgotten what the nut tasted like. The milk is also thicker in consistency and this is not a natural effect, but more from the emulsifiers and thickeners added. As the product ages, I also found that it tasted less enjoyable. It sort of just tastes like if you took tapioca and blended it finely. I like tapioca and I like cashews, but unsure the Silk Cashew milk delivered what I expected. I tried the product with cereals, granola, fruit to even chocolate and the latter sort of added at least some more flavor and helped disguise the texture, so it’s more a product that I would consider as an add-on. Add it to chocolate to have a healthier chocolate blend. Would be great with whey protein shakes and the such because it’s also not as nutritious as you would want on it’s own. Not high on protein at all…..like less than 1 gram per serving. Yes, it’s only 25 calories for 1 cup but if it were not for the added vitamins and minerals that were added after, it’s not that high. You get 160 mg of sodium and 45% of your daily calcium, which is sourced from the calcium carbonate added. If you buy the unsweetened version, you get 0 grams of sugar but if you purchase the “original”, you get 7 grams. The product is advertised as creamy and I associate the texture more as thick but from the Locust bean, not the nut itself. I think it falls in being a middle of the road product where you could find better nut milks that offer a higher nutrition value and flavor, but if you want a little bit of change, you can try the Cashew milk by Silk.

I did find a place for Silk’s Cashew milk and that is in baking. The product has a good amount of thickeners and because it’s better tasting than water, you at least can replace some of the product with Silk’s Cashew milk where water is called for. I baked my usual non-dairy chocolate cake with it and added Cocoa powder and coffee, which I steeped in hot cashew milk. The recipe called for 1 cup of water or left-over coffee, so why not go with something more flavorful. The other positive that is hard to pass up, the price point. Super cheap at Target where a large carton can be found and if you add a coupon, the cashew milk price makes the product taste sweeter! The only limitations at Target is that you can usually find the original and unsweetened version. My two Targets did not stock the chocolate or vanilla so far. Now, I love Silk Chocolate milk, so I’m curious about that version!

I rarely meet a person that says they sleep well for the most part. As life gets busier and even people that tend to be problem free, it’s no guarantee you will be snoozing right when your head meets the pillow. To remain healthy, you need to get proper rest and if you are already are suffering health issues, they may exacerbate any condition, so you need to be in tune with how well you sleep and what you can improve and/or change. The problem with the latter is you can’t monitor yourself when your brain is resting, and having someone watch you……well, that can up the creep factor 🙂

Verdict:
It seemed too simple that I was unsure of the product. Hey, easy things scare me! This is not a medical device and will not diagnose you, like if you suffer from sleep apnea, but look at it as a tool. You don’ just feel someone’s forehead and guess the degrees of their temperature. You use a thermometer and this is how I viewed the Beddit system after getting it out of the package and familiarizing myself with the product. It’s a sleep meter and it’s going to tell me information that I can share even share with my doctor. I already knew I did not sleep well but most times I was puzzled as to why I woke up so tired after doing the math of how long I slept. Well, I move a lot in bed. More than I ever imagined. I definitely burn calories by flipping from one side to another and each time I am woken up, I again have to start all over with my sleep stages. I suffer from asthma and it seems when I cough while sleeping, it tends to again disturb my sleep. My Husband said there are times I have snores or just a rattle going when I am sleeping but it’s not an everyday thing. Well, I was able to get confirmation that I do snore and especially after a stressful day when my breathing is not at optimum. Great information and easy to share. The Beddit system can even pick-up my snore and know the difference between that of my Husband’s (yes, he is guilty too) because it has a built-in microphone. I was surprised how much information I could gather and I knew my breathing gives me issues but a huge one is when I roll flat on my back and that is what is causing the coughing. My chest movements were cataloged and I have adjusted even the pillows I use. Having a smaller pillow now to keep me from going flat on my back made a big difference. I don’t suffer from that deep fatigue I would wake up with and sometimes I woke up more tired than when I went to bed. I would have not known this without the Beddit system and it’s that DIY insight I needed. Beddit is not a doctor but it’s the “other me” I needed for the times we can’t watch ourselves. With the weather being in that temperamental mood of swinging between Summer like temperatures to then wanna-be Fall, my skin and lips are also throwing a tantrum! What’s in it:
This is for a serving of 2 gummies with a Daily Value (DV) based on a 2,000 caloric daily intake diet.
Biotin– 2, 500 mg (833% of your DV) > Biotin is usually found in our intestinal’s bacteria and our bodies usually produce more naturally than what our body requires (DV). Biotin is what our cells need to be able to grow, produce Fatty Acids and aid with metabolizing fats and Amino Acids. Now, there are people who may have metabolic disorders, in which enough Biotin is not produced. You will also find people that have a issues producing enough gastric acid be low on Biotin, as patients who are elderly, people who consume alcohol and/or smoke. Another cause is a Immune System disorders. Another culprit that may make a person deficient in Biotin is consumption of egg whites in their raw form and on a daily basis (functional Avidin). Avidin is destroyed by cooking. Symptoms of a deficiency is hair loss, skin disorders to even neurological disorders like depression, fatigue, lethargy to hallucinations.

Vitamin E is another antioxidant and can help with protecting lipids, neurological function, to even reducing oxidative stress.
Other Ingredients listed- Corn Syrup, Sugar, Dicalcium Phosphate, Grape juice color concentrate, Gelatin, Modified Food Starch, Citric Acid, Lactic Acid, Natural Strawberry flavor, Black Carrot juice color concentrate, Maltodextrin, Fractionated Coconut oil, Carnauba wax, Beeswax and Silica.
Dosage:For adults, Nature’s Bounty recommends a serving of 2 gummies once or twice on a daily basis. They suggest taking them with a meal. A full size bottle comes with 80 gummies in total, so you will run short on a 30-day supply if you go beyond the minimum requirement (once daily).
The Flavor/Taste Test:
The gummies are Strawberry flavored and sweet, with almost a corn starch after-taste. Not your usually clear looking gummy but a more cloudy and waxy consistency.
Overall Performance/Results:
I took the product until I finished the bottle and I must admit I did not like being short on a 30-day supply if I took the product twice daily (total of 4 gummies). It’s just not convenient and not a manner I usually buy or take supplements. I like the amount of Biotin and Vitamin C and E found in the blend. I found taking 1 gummy in the morning and 1 gummy in the afternoon worked best for me because 833% of a my Biotin daily value in one dose is really just going to purge out with the amount of water I tend to drink through out the day. I prefer absorbing my supplements a little through out the day versus flooding my system with higher (mega) doses. I noticed changes mostly in my nails and the growth cycle did speed up. My hair grows quickly as it is, so I could not comment there but I did not notice any significance when it came to changes in my skin. I did not have fewer or more breakouts.
A few things I did find negative when it came to this supplement was the corn syrup as first ingredient, then more sugar, to the clear window where you can see the gummies from. Vitamin C oxidizes and becomes useless when exposed to light and this is why you always see the supplement stored in dark/solid colored bottles. I know people like to view products when buying but not at the cost of potentially losing a benefit when you are seeking to better your health. I know I m not Biotin deficient and could not locate studies where a person who produces, or in our case naturally produce more than needed; needed a mega-dose on top of that to see results in skin, hair, or nails. I have been drinking more water so I know that helps with the aforementioned, and it comes at a lower cost per unit, plus you don’t get shortened on a 30-day supply there 🙂
Price Point: 80 gummy count bottle retails for $5.79 to $7.99. I found the lower price point at Walmart, with Amazon being $0.10 more and Walgreen’s being the most expensive at $7.99.
I am glad I tried the gummies because I do believe in working from within to improve our outside. With the coupon and guarantee, I personally feel that it may be something you wish to try and see if you get results. It’s a win/win in my book!

Everybody sometimes gets a funky house. Sour trashcans, All-Fried Fridays, heaping plates of brussel sprouts (aka “stinkberries” as hubby calls them). All of this creates funk. The kind you wake up in the morning, and go “Ew” over.
The lovely folks at BzzAgents must’ve had a few of those morning too, since the offered me a Glade campaign that included coupons for melts and a plug-in. Huzzah and hooray, because man, all the cooking I do around here has the house fun-KAY.
I’ll start with the Glade Wax Melts. You’ll need something to melt them in, but one little square goes a loooong way. I mean the whole house smells amazing! I was shocked at how long it lasted, how great it smelled, and how all that funk just went away. You get 8 cubes to a pack for less than three bucks! Are you kidding me? I chose “Cashmere Woods”, because it was the tail end of winter and it just smelled dreamy in the package. If it tells you anything, I’ve already bought 4 more. Can you say “stockpile”?
Next up is the plug-in, Glade Scented Oil Warmers Customizables. You get to pick 2 scents, or packs of pre-selected mixes, to fill your entire house with fragrance. The cute little plug-in alternates between fragrances so you never have a chance to GO ” Ug, spiced apples AGAIN?”. Did I mention it’s adorable? It’s adorable. Not the same-old same-old white, huge, honking “Look at me!” type, a delicate little flip up plug in that looks almost as nice as it smells. With a little doo-dad on the side to adjust the amount of fragrance it puts into the air (low, medium, and “I’ve been eatin’ raw onions”), you get to customize your experience even further. Sometimes, with other plug-ins, I’d get a headache from the amount of atomized oil that gets put into the air. Not here. This one, this one’s a keeper. And at $7.48 (starter kit) for up to 60 days of great smells, it’s a true value. Plus, coupons abound.
You’ll be doing yourself a huge favor picking up one or the other (or both! 😉 ), and then you can chop garlic, fry up bacon, or eat a plate of brussel sprouts until your little heart’s content!

I love these parties and who doesn’t? You get to share items with friends and also money saving coupons. Today we all try to save and also get the best bang for our buck and you do not need to sacrifice quality all together. Procter and Gamble helps do just that with their Basic lines, so you can still purchase necessities without breaking the wallet.
I was sent a healthy assortment of products to try, share and also had a raffle giveaway for the coupons that were for the free items. Everyone loves leaving with goodies to take home and give it a “real world” test!

Bounty Basic:
You still get the “picker-upper” power but for a more economical price-point. We found the sheets to be thinner but if you spilled a liquid, the Basic Bounty sheet did it’s job of absorbing every last drop. The only differences we noticed is that the product can’t be reused as much as the other Bounty lines, however it all depends on your needs. I use paper towels to clean and dispose with few times needing to squeeze a second life out of a sheet. We rarely clean spills so Bounty Basic fits my needs perfectly. We usually clean a surface and then dispose of the sheet. I also like that the Basic sheet does not let go lint all over my counters. Having a dark granite makes it easy to spot a paper-towel that may be leaving anything behind, but Bounty Basic did not dirty while cleaning :). We all enjoyed the lower price-point and you can catch Bounty Basic on sale, plus with the coupons (look in your Sunday paper or use my link below), you get to save more!
A place where skimping on quality can go wrong, in comes Charmin Basic to save the day with a lower cost toilet paper that does not require you to waste more by using more. Charmin Basic is the only toilet paper we have found that for the price point, it gives you a satisfied clean, does not require you to dust the bathroom because of the “TP linty dust” left behind like with other brands. Charmin Basic is also easy on plumbing and I found that it rarely clogs or slows a toilet when flushing. We switched like many of my guests have, to a more economical toilet paper because no one likes to flush money down the drain. I have been satisfied with how long a roll lasts and overall performance, that if Charmin Basic remains like it is, I will not be changing brands anytime soon.
Out of habit, I like many others purchased the facial tissue that my parents purchased. I went with the tissue that could keep up with my allergy needs and leave me with a “kleen” nose. As time went on, the prices kept increasing and the coupons when I found them……well, they were not much savings. Sometimes I felt I was wasting ink and paper for the sake of saving! I switched at my last Orgullosa party, when P&G sent just a travel size pack. I used the pack up and realized I did not miss my former brand. I started purchasing Puffs and then tried the Basic line. Found my perfect balance of savings without sacrificing quality. I still use 1 to 2 tissues like I did with my old brand but found I’m more allergic to wasting money than pollen 🙂
The wonderful Orgullosa/P&G group also included gifts for my guests. We received adorable notebooks with pens, bracelets and coupons. I raffled the “freebie coupons”, to the guest that could stack more on their Bounty Basic sheet before it broke. Think of a Jenga game but with Bounty!

The Meal:
Being that we were close to Valentine’s Day, I baked chocolate chip cookies and just added a heart sprinkle to each one for that Valentine’s Day touch. I served my guests Kabobs with a Mediterranean Wild Rice and Vegetable Medley. I usually go the Spanish route but wanted something different for my guests and barbecuing seemed fit on this beautiful California’s day. The sun was out and since Winter forgot about us this year, we made the most of it! Everyone enjoyed the festivities and you see how happy people get when they learn to save with the Basic Everyday lines from Procter & Gamble…..savings makes smiles 😀
