RichCraft Products Premium Burlap Roll with No-Fray Edges

cropped-header1

I’ve been crafting with burlap now for about a year, and if there was one thing that really chapped my bottom, it was the fraying edges of most standard burlap. It’s messy, it’s nearly impossible to mend a straight edge to it, and consequently keeping straight lines on projects was a futile effort. And then RichCraft came along and offered me their Premium Burlap “Table Runner” roll with “No Fray” edges. It’s like the clouds parting on a cloudy day and feeling the sun shine on your face.

RichCraft uses a tightly-knit, super premium natural burlap fabric that isn’t patchy and full of holes, but retains that rustic charm inherent to burlap fabric. But they went the extra mile and sewed over the edges to insure you don’t have little bits and strings sticking out all over the place, which had become my number one complaint working with burlap. The texture is uniform, unlike most industrial or low-grade burlap, and you get 10 yards of 12″ premium burlap to work with. They call it a “Table Runner” roll, and I have no doubt it would look stunning as a table runner, but there’s so much more you can do with it, because it’s made so well and doesn’t make the same mess you’d be used to with normal burlap. You can even make placemats to go with the table runner, the possibilities are endless!

There’s a lot of burlap fabric out there, and some of it is terrible to work with. It’s messy, poorly woven, with jute thread of varying sizes throughout, making any project a little bit harder to complete. RichCraft’s Premium Burlap Roll is one of the first I’ve used with sewn edges, and I’ll have a very hard time going back to my other burlap rolls after this. RichCraft has spoiled me! It’s a little pricey, but you have to balance quality with price, and I feel RichCraft has hit that sweet spot with both. I highly recommend their Premium Burlap Table Runner Roll!

VelloStar Compact Travel Sewing Kit

IMAG3600

Many, many moons ago, my dad taught me the basics of sewing, and in doing so bought me a sewing kit not too much different than this one. At the time sewing was thought of as a “girl thing” instead of one of the worlds original industrial arts. I learned a lot of the basics, but it was also significantly different in that it was nowhere near as comprehensive. And right from then, I was hooked on sewing. I think VelloStar is looking to hook a whole new generation again on sewing and all the merits that come with it.

With 12 8-10 yard spools sporting a dozen of the most common and popular colors of thread, as well as needles of various sizes, a seam ripper, buttons, a couple of push pins, scissors, threaders, a thimble, a safety pin, a measuring tape, and all wrapped up in a zippered canvas case to carry everything. And all for just $6.99? Yes, please! And lest you think this is like those old, cheap hospitality kits you’d sometimes get at hotels, this is not that. This, this is useful. The thread is decent, the needles are useful sizes, and the scissors cut. It’s useful enough that I now never leave home without it, because, much like Hubby’s Leatherman, you never know when you’ll need it, and it’s better to have it when you do. And since it takes up practicality no space at all, so there’s no excuse not to take it with you.

Whether you’re new to sewing, or an old hand, there’s something in this kit for you. It’s incredibly useful, it’s small enough to fit right in your purse, glove box, or pocket. It’s got some of the most common and useful tools you’d hope you’ll never need. And it’s priced so right there’s no excuse to not have one or two around. If you know someone who sews, or someone who wants to learn, I can’t think of a better, more useful gift.
