Exfolimate: Exfoliating 2 piece Face and Body System #Review #FaceBodyTool

DSC_1199

I admit it, I am addicted to exfoliating and even use a machine once a week that delivers at-home Microdermabrasion results. I still do a mild exfoliating treatment every couple of days to keep everything smooth and dead skin cells at bay. Being that I prefer no chemicals like using an acid based peel, I am always hunting for devices that may deliver the same or better results.

In comes Exfolimate with a simple scraper system. It gently removes dead skin cells in a more gentle manner, not requiring any acid based peels or rotating discs. The simplicity continues when it comes to use. You have a larger size remover that is for the body and the smaller is for the face. The handle is made out of a plastic, while the part that makes contact with your skin is made from metal. The idea is to run the Exfolimate over your skin to aid with the removal of dead skin cells and any debris (i.e. clogged pores), leaving you with a smoother looking and feeling surface.

Verdict:

The Exfolimate system is easy to use and will always be a better option that using your nails or a wash cloth as an exfoliating method. I found the handle and size to be ergonomic and easy to hold in use.  No discs to worry about changing, chemicals that may cause irritation and/or redness. The Exfolimate can also be sanitized by using alcohol after each use to avoid any bacteria from building up. I used the system in between my Microdermabrasion treatments (usually 3 days after) to keep my skin feeling smooth, so think of it as a “touching-up” method. Th Exfolimate glided easily and was painless both in use and how it performed. I still prefer a scrub over the Exfolimate and this is because a scrub can be purchased with anti-aging or acne treating properties. I still have to wash my face, so I see using a scrub as a multi-tasker versus the Exfolimate being a one use only tool. The other stickler was the price point. I just do not see paying $30 for what pretty much breaks down to being a scraper for your skin. I get the functionality but again, this is a piece of plastic and a thin metal strip. Now, I did find the body tool more useful as I find it a waste to use a scrub intended for my face on my body. I usually purchase sugar based scrubs for body exfoliating, but I can see using the tool more on my legs and especially when some shaving creams/gels tend to leave an undesired residue behind. I can see wanting a Exfolimate for the body but again, I just can’t see the price versus results here. It was one of those things where the item did not hurt me but also did not help me (kind of thing).

Glytterati’s 8mm Men’s Black-Ion Plated Titanium Ring

logo

When I got the last ring I reviewed here for hubby, I was pretty happy to report on the quality of Glytterati’s products and hubby liked the ring very much. So I tickled pink to report that their next offering, the Titanium 8mm with Black Ion plating ring, is also the goods.

DSC_1330

Once you get past what seems to be the industry standard for titanium and tungsten of whole sizes only, you’re left with a product that fit’s mostly okay but looks like a million bucks. It’s highly polished, incredibly lightweight, and at 8mm should stand out from the crowd. Hubby usually wears a 9mm band on his big ‘ol sausage fingers, but the 8mm doesn’t get lost on him. In fact, the contrast of the high-polished bright titanium and the shiny black ion plating is incredibly striking and I caught more than one person trying to get a better look at Hubby’s new “bling”. Lest we forget this is Hubby we’re talking about, the black ion plating stood up to his, shall we call it “lack of delicate handling” with aplomb and didn’t scratch off like a lesser “painted” finish would. In fact, the titanium was pretty durable and stood up to all manner of abuse before showing any real signs of wear. But it still shines and looks classy, so this one is most definitely a keeper.

DSC_1331

The ring is comfort fit, wears well, with no rough edges and being as it’s light, you almost forget that you’re wearing it. Add to that Glytterati’s 100% lifetime satisfaction guarantee as well as their scratch-proof guarantee, and the promise of a 12 hour response time, and you have every reason to get this ring right now. There might be a glut of cheap titanium bands out there, but very few will match the quality and service commitment of Glytterati. You just can’t go wrong.

PMD: Personal Microderm Microdermabrasion Device #Review

DSC_0828

The new year means I am keeping with the trend of trying at home beauty related devices, to see if they deliver better results. I have tried so far laser and a glass unit that was more cumbersome as time went on. So far, laser has been the technology that I feel has delivered visible results at a lower price point than what you get at a spa facility or even out of several jars of beauty creams!

DSC_0829

My new unit is from PMD, a company that makes several Microdermabrasion devices and also has a skincare line. I have seen these units at Ulta, Sephora to even Costco. At Costco, the PMD representative allowed me to handle the unit and see how it worked, which is always a plus because the other beauty stores have the unit as an “on-line only” purchase. I noticed the unit was easy to handle, ergonomic in shape, which made it easy to maneuver and even though the abrasion technology used has a spinning motion, the unit did not vibrate so much that it made it awkward to hold. The technology used makes sure the user is able to just focus on the skin, versus a device that sometimes can be unwieldy. So, I had already a positive mindset when it came to using PMD tools. My only question was, does it work? Will I see a difference that justifies ownership and investing in refills?  Hey, I get upset when fragrance refills get changed and I they expect me to buy all new units!

DSC_0830

I did not want this to be like printers of the past, where the ink makes you never, ever want to print in color and only printing in “fast-econo mode” when you print anything else, because a refill breaks the bank. Not bringing in another machine into this house that makes me feel guilty for using it! I first looked at refills and that fear was easily put to rest. Each disc is easily differentiated by a color coding system:

The cost was something I had to do a double-take because it was actually (dislike using this word) cheap, so let us say cost effective :). I know. I wanted an excuse before the unit was out of the box to convince myself that exfoliating was something that I was doing fine with by using a mask and/or scrub. Six individual refills costs $20.00. Okay, but what does that bring to the table? Well, one disc has a lifespan of 3 to 4 treatments. You do one treatment a week……..well, this is actually cheaper than my scrub that I use every 3 days, not counting the daily one! What the heck! I had to redo the math and somehow PMD found a way to not “get you” with the refills like so many other companies tend to do. This is why I do not use my facial scrubber machine because I do not want to kill the rechargeable battery and/or buy another refill. In the end, I am trying to make my face scrubber last longer by not using it! Yeah, no logic in that!

Retail Price Point: The starting price for PMD tools (units) start at $159.00 and go as high as $199.00.  Visit here to compare the devices and the differences, plus see what tools suites your needs best.

So, I am past the refill fear and get this, this device requires no charging or batteries. As I was reading the manual, I plugged in the device thinking I would get somewhere in the manual while reading it, where it would state how long to charge for, or unplug when whatever light turns green. I had a laughing moment when I read you just plug it in and go. Okay, PMD……you are making me like you!

Verdict:
It all comes down to results. Is PMD going to give my skin same like results that I can’t achieve cheaper via another method. This is how I break down what products stay and what products go in our home. It’s all about what they bring to the table. PMD discs use aluminium oxide crystals and I started really reading about the material and what it can do. The aluminum oxide crystals are hypoallergenic, so already a plus because there is no chemical or ingredient like in a scrub that may irritate the skin. So, that already takes that worry out of the equation and also no beads that are not only harmful to the environment but also plumbing. The ability for the disc to not grow or spread bacteria is important, because when we exfoliate or do Microdermabrasion procedures at home, we are causing the skin to open (i.e. minor damage) in order for it to heal and resurface a new layer of skin that has a better appearance. You are not going to yield great results if a product has fragrance or welcomes bacteria to the party! There is no scrubbing here, the device just glides (once over each section of the skin) and does all the work. The user is key and that means be mindful that you pass only once over each treated area and the PMD device does all the work. This unit can also be used for the face and body, and again easy as the discs clearly tell you what and where they can be used. I like having that option and choice!  The PMD device also helps circulation, so your skin will increase collagen production and help the skin look plumper and healthier over time.  So, this is more than just discs removing dead skin, this is a total skincare system!

This slideshow requires JavaScript.

Final Verdict:
I did as instructed and removed all products that could irritate or really were being replaced by what PMD’s system does for you. Check! No retinol, no acids, no peels, no anything and just allowing PMD be what my skin depends on and getting use to the idea of only using this unit once a week and nothing in between but a good moisturizing regimen to pick up the rest. Doing less in the beauty world is always welcoming but when you have habits and someone tells you do this once a week and you will be more better than fine, like your skin will look and feel better…….well, you get suspicious (or at least I do). I had a few bumps from using a new hair spray, which were beginning to sort of emerge but not fully on the sides of my forehead. I did the PMD treatment and I was done quickly after doing my practice run a few days before that only made sure I got the hang of it, but that I would not experience irritation. I just softly pulled my skin taught where needed and the PMD device did all the work. I was finished with my face in 5 to 7 minutes. No masks or peels take that little time and it was odd not worrying about cracking a mud mask by laughing and not talking for 20 to 25 minutes. The feeling on my face felt like when I do an aspirin mask, that fresh and clean feeling but not over dry. Day three, my pimples submerge. Like with any beauty treatment, this is something I brought to the party and I wanted to see how PMD would deal with it. Hey, I get breakouts here and there and I need a system that knows this and not have a rule that my face has to be 100% clear to use it because it might as well go hang out with the face scrubber! Week two comes by, and my pimples never fully went all angry on me. I always get 2 or 3 when they come out what I call in “island formation” that are going to be pests. No pests and I did not pick (man, that was hard), but I did not want to pick at my face and blame PMD for the ouch. Again, I do another treatment and you can see my skin gets a little red but within one hour the redness is gone and I do the treatment at night.  This is something I always did to allow my skin to calm down. My pimples do not get white heads or clog up. You know how when a pimple pops but then wants to do it again 3 days later (when it gathered more bacteria making buddies)? That did not happen. Healing happened. They did not over peel as I stayed away from anything that would hurry the turn-over process up and cause irritation to the “good skin”. Then I noticed when entering week three, that the pimples I had in week one is all the pimples I have dealt with. The non-pimpled skin is smoother and softer, but remains pimple free. My skin is not missing the daily scrub, masks, peels, and you name it. I then noticed when ending week three that my skin has improved dramatically. I took pictures and I have no scars I will have to work with. Just little peeling skin where the pimple was but no pimple revisiting and I just used one disc to do all this. One disc, only once a week and no battery to charge! That means my one disc costs about $3.50 ($3.33 to be exact) and that is all it took for almost a month’s worth of treatments. This is also the disc price with no coupons as PMD advertises on the site discounts to add that usually take 20% to 25% off, so the deal can be sweetened! The sweeter part is my face. I love it! Scars do come off on me from acne because I thankfully do not get deep ones but it takes 2 months to lighten them up to the point you can’t see them. The PMD device made sure not only did I not develop scar making marks (blemishes, zits, blackheads, white heads, pimples, bumps of unknown origin, ect.) but started to race up my healing periods. I am done with scrubs that tend to over dry my skin and the discs PMD offers means I can just change discs as the weather changes because this means my skin is more sensitive in the Winter months when it is cold. No new scrub I need to get that then will rot under the sink until I need it again 1 year later! The PMD works with your skin, not you needing to work for it!

TAN’s Tungsten Carbide 6mm Women’s Ring

Hubby has sung the praises of his tungsten carbide wedding band for years and years now. He to this day says it’s one of the best gifts I’ve ever given him, and it still shines like the day I got it for him. He’s rough on his ring, and once wore a silver one until it looked like it’d been run over by a freight train. But this one takes everything he dishes out and asks for seconds. So when the chance to get one of my own popped up, I was thrilled.

DSC_0542

I have a couple of rings, one very nice one Hubby proposed with, and a second one he bought a few years later that is more understated and reflected my changing tastes. But to this day I’d never had just a simple band, and I was very much looking forward to it. I say that in the past tense because, for me, this one missed the mark for it’s intended purpose. I was asked what size ring I wear (Size 6), and I submitted that to them, but when it came time to purchase, the smallest size was a 7. And it’s not like you can size tungsten carbide either. So I still don’t have my simple tungsten wedding band, but I do have a nice ring that is polished to a brilliant shine and hasn’t gotten a single ding or scratch in the days I’ve worn it, and for me that’s a real accomplishment. It’s heavy, and comfort fit so getting it off and on is a breeze. It’s also completely hypoallergenic, and won’t discolor your skin like some silver and costume jewelry will. It even came in a pretty little box and slip sleeve, although the ring was too thick for the ring holder to “grab” properly in the box.

DSC_0543

Overall, I highly recommend TAN’S tungsten carbide wedding band if you’re looking for a “beater” ring that won’t ever look beaten. I’m still on the hunt, personally, but for those of you who wear a 7 and above, this ring is real keeper.

Glytterati Men’s Wedding Band Titanium w/ Gold Ion Plating

logo

Hubby wears no jewelry, save for his wedding band. In fact, he’s adamant about it. Years and years ago, I got him a tungsten carbide band, with three diamonds in it. Because he’s rough on his ring, and his old gold band had seen better days. And he needs a ring that can stand up to every day beatings, and still not look like an old run-over lock nut he found in a parking lot. But, steel is steel, even if it’s tungsten, and I wanted something nicer for when we go out, and boy howdy if this Titanium and Gold Band from Glytterati doesn’t fit that need to a tee!

DSC_0415

With titanium rings, it seems a lot of manufacturers want to put all manner of goofy inlays, of intricate designs, or laser etch something trendy into it. Finding a simple, elegant ring that is at least 8mm used to be a nightmare for me. Anything smaller on Hubby’s sausage fingers tends to look…feminine. His original tungsten band was 9mm, and it still looked slim on his finger, but the gold ion plating of the Gytterati ring sets off the edges and makes the 8mm band look a little larger.  The gold ion plating runs from one edge, all around the inside, and back to the other edge and is polished to a mirror finish. Running around the middle of the band is a brushed silver titanium that contrasts nicely while having a beautiful luster. The inside of the band is comfort-fit, so sliding the ring off and on won’t be a problem, and it’s thin enough that it won’t add to the callous on his palm like his tungsten ring. It’s also easily half the weight of Hubby’s old tungsten carbide ring, all while being just as thick. The flat edges top and bottom are a little rougher than the rounded edges of his old ring, but the fit is still nice and Hubby frequently forgets he’s wearing it.

DSC_0266

One small issue is that, for a lot of these types of rings, they only come in whole sizes, and Hubby is a half. He squeezes his finger into a ten, but really he needs a 10 & 1/2. So my only complaint is I wish they came in half sizes. Titanium wears well and is very scratch resistant, but should you get a scratch on it, there’s almost no way to buff it out like gold, silver or platinum. But Glytterati offers both their “lifetime guarantee” and their “Scratch Proof Guarantee” in which they state should your ring scratch easily, or gets damaged, or you just don’t like it, return it for a full refund. I would assume the return shipping cost is up to you. The Glytterati Titanium Band looks much nicer than the $14.99 price point belies, and I’m glad Hubby got to try one out.

Boots: No7 Beautiful Skin Normal/Oily Night Cream #Review #No7BeautifulSkin

DSC_0181

When it comes to beauty creams, sometimes you want just a simple moisturizer and I tend to add one after using serums and lighter textured formulas. My skin is temperamental and can’t make up it’s mind, so some days my T-zone will be oily and other days normal. I tend to always purchase products that will satisfy both because I am not buying a cream just for my T-zone that may or may not be used ever day.

Ingredients (as listed on the website)-

Aqua (Water), Glycerin, Cyclopentasiloxane, Isononyl Isononanoate, Cyclohexasiloxane, Cetearyl Glucoside, Cetearyl Alcohol, Ammonium Acryloyldimethyltaurate/VP Copolymer, Silica, Phenoxyethanol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Methylparaben, Potassium Cetyl Phosphate, Parfum (Fragrance), Sodium PCA, Zinc PCA, Xanthan Gum, Ethylparaben, Alcohol, Ascorbyl Glucoside, Tetrasodium EDTA, Magnesium PCA, T-Butyl Alcohol, Hamamelis Virginiana (Witch Hazel) Distillate, Dimethicone, Potassium Hydroxide, Dipropylene Glycol, Manganese PCA, Simethicone, Potassium Sorbate.

Retail Price Point- $14,24 for a 1.69 ounce jar via Target

Verdict:

I am a fan of Boots products and No 7 is part of that family brand. I received a sample of the No 7 Beautiful Skin care line, which offers night creams for all types of skin (i.e. oily, dry, normal, ect.) and is also hypoallergenic. This is a simple cream that is lightweight in texture but provides enough moisture for the (hopefully) 8 hours you will be sleeping. The moisturizer helps rebalance oil production while you rest, so you don’t wake up an oily mess and at the same time nourishes. Oily skin is not fought by depleting it because then your pores will kick in on over drive, and produce more of the stuff you don’t desire (oil!). Skin is funny that way. The Boots No 7 skin night cream I found to be the perfect simple moisturizer that does not have anti-aging properties but addresses my everyday needs like a too shiny chin!

I-Gruv: All Natural and Handmade Smart Dryer Balls #Review #IGruv

DSC_0027

I’m the type of girl that takes the extra time and money when it comes to laundering needs.  I wash my jeans with mild detergents, always turn them inside out and I admit to owning and wearing clothing I had from High School and College.  I treat my clothes nicely because I want it to last and this applies to the $9 shirt to the shirts I paid more than I should have for.  This means I purchase the scent boosters for sheets and really invest in all the perks I can find that will make laundering successful.

Other than just adding a dryer sheet, nothing really special applies to drying other than the settings my dryer offers.  I’m a “delicate” abuser because I find that setting is gentle enough to make my clearance purchase last longer!  I always want to do more for my clothes and when I-Gruv offered their Smart Dryer Balls, I was game!
DSC_0026
I-Gruv Smart Dryer Balls offer:
  • 100% Handmade in New Zealand .
  • 100% Natural fibers.
  • Made with Wool, which is also Hypoallergenic.
  • It’s Economical and also a Eco-Friendly way to dry your clothing.
  • Gentle on Fabrics and you reduce your chemical use, which is always a plus for fabrics.
  • Drying Times are shortened, meaning you get through laundering quicker and use less energy.  In other words, they save you money.

<

DSC_0028

Verdict:
Reviewing these is easy because it’s a product that works or does not.  It was odd to add 3 Smart Dryer Balls to the wet clothes, turn on the machine and walk away.  I used the auto-setting, which tells the dryer to tell me when the cycle is finishing.  My biggest problem is our sheets and comforters.  I have to constantly go in and move the load around for it to dry evenly and effectively.  It’s not labor intensive but a pain when you are doing other tasks around the house, so I tend to forget and then open the dryer’s door to find 1/2 a wet comforter but of course in spots…..never the same side.  I wanted to know how Smart these Dryer Balls are, so I threw the I-Gruv balls to the hardest load and most troublesome I encounter.  In went the all the bed sheets, three balls and I walked away.  The cycle rung at 42 minutes and this is for a queen size fitted sheets, a flat sheet and 4 pillow case.  I laughed like the Dryer told me a joke!  Yeah, my dryer has a sense of humor.  I went to open the door like an automated robot, read to start readjusting the load and then realized that there were no wet patches.  I started to move the load around like I’m looking for change in a couch and no matter where I flipped, touched……no wet spots.  My dryer finally did it’s job and the sheets were perfectly dry and ready to make the bed with.  For once I’m hurrying around trying to make the bed rather than standing at the laundry room’s door waiting for it to tell me again it’s done when it is not.  No extra static because I was concerned that two different materials tossing together could create some.  No odd odors from the balls because they are 100% natural and no extra wrinkles.  Just a perfect set of sheets, dry, and ready to go!

Retail Price Point: $18.74 for a 6-pack on Amazon, that comes with a storage pouch.

Okay, I was not a believer of such things but now I am!  They Smart Dryer Balls from I-Gruv do make some level of noise and this depends on the size of load they are drying.  I call it singing because I prefer adjusting myself to a few bouncy noises and knowing my clothes are perfectly dry after just one cycle.  If the noise bothers, just make sure the load is large enough or do what I do, I only run the dryer when everyone is awake and it bothers no one 🙂

Influenster: Boots Botanics Shine Away Ionic Clay Mask #PowerofPlants

DSCN4552 I recently got the opportunity to try some really nifty products, thanks to Influencer. Starting with Boots Botanics. Boots Botanics uses the “Power of Plants” for a more natural approach to beauty. The mask contains Oceanic minerals, plus active plant extracts like Willow bark, which is a natural source of Salicylic Acid. Salicylic Acid is part of the beta-hydroxic acid family and is found in many acne clearing products to anti-aging regimens. The acid helps refine skin’s texture, lower inflammation (like an aspirin), and open clogged pores, helping you shed dead skin more rapidly. Continual use will produce a skin surface with smaller pores that is not constricted by clogs or bacteria, which causes blemishes.

My Results: I received this item in the #JadoreVoxBox from Influenster. I have heard of the Boots brand but have never tried any of their products. This was my first experience with the brand! The mask provides your skin with a deep clean using clay enriched with minerals. You are left with a purified clean surface, but the results are not over drying. The mask was able to clean my pores and remove any excess oils, plus I was left with pores that appeared smaller in size. My face was glowing and soft to the touch.

Price Point: $9.39 for 3.5 ounces

Ingredients (as listed on the site): Sea silt (Natural oceanic clay), Aqua (Water), Potassium sorbate, Sodium hydroxymethylglycinate, Salix nigra (Willow) bark extract DSCN4550 I was happy not only with the price point but a little product goes a long way. Application was simple, by just applying to clean skin and I left the product on for about 10 to 15 minutes. I dislike when masks over clean and get rid of not only the bad but the good, but this mask does not fall into that department. Over-stripping is not something I experienced at all! BzzAgent: Schick Hydro Silk Sensitive Care Razor & Skintimate Shaving Gel

DSCN4099

One of my most recent BzzAgent’s campaigns has been the Schick Hydro Silk razor and Skintimate Shaving Gel. The kit came with the razor to try, coupons to share and a free coupon to pick-up a Skintimate shaving gel of my choice. I purchased my shaving gel at Target and opted for the Skin Therapy formula that aids with moisturizing and hydrating, plus includes Vitamin E.

DSCN4101

Schick Hydro Silk razor is formulated for “Sensitive Care” and not only provides a close shave for smoother results, but has added benefits:

  • Hypoallergenic Serum to Protect against irritation (with Shea Butter)
  • 5 Curve sensing Blades
  • Moisturizes up to 2 hours after Shaving
  • Dermatologist Tested
  • Unique Skin Guards on each blade for added protection
  • Even a Soft-Touch Handle to make shaving a breeze

DSCN4102

I have been blessed with not having sensitive skin on my face but my legs are another story. After I shave, I get itchy legs no matter the blade’s age, so I usually resort to shaving aids like shaving gels/lotions to lessen it. I then have to make sure I hurry up and apply body lotion because if I don’t, I’ll pay for it and trying to do your make-up with itchy legs……well, the results are not pretty. I used the new Schick Hydro Silk razor and I noticed after rinsing, my legs did not even start feeling that tickle that then turns to an itch. I was able to get out of the shower like a normal person, dry and still no itch. I then applied body lotion but this time taking my time versus hurrying up to calm down the irritations. No razor bumps or even redness! I attribute the results to a combination of the sensitive skin formula but let’s not forget the moisture I was able to get from Skintimate’s Shaving Gel. The gel made it easier to shave and allowed me to get a close shave without dehydrating and stressing my skin’s surface. I thank the Vitamin E oil for that because I have used it in the past with wonderful results. The duo works so I will be purchasing this combo in the future!
